Review of Daredevil Hamlet at The Neo-Futurarium

Once upon a time, I went to a play called Daredevil Hamlet. It was one of the greatest plays this year. You can play ball with the actors at the beginning. I don’t know what kind of ball it was, but it is some kind of ball. I want to play if I go again.

My favorite dance was the one where they danced in their underwear with skulls on them. It was just so hilarious. It was in the scene that they were talking about Yorick—so I think that was supposed to be about Yorick. Hamlet is sad because Yorick is dead. Maybe they did that funny dance to cheer up Hamlet.

My favorite trick was the one where John held his breath underwater for it felt like a whole hour. He was dressed up as Ophelia because she is actually supposed to be dead in the play because she drowns.

At some point in the play a guy went on a baby’s tricycle and went up the ramp. And it was hilarious because he wasn’t actually doing it by himself. He was getting pushed up and they also lifted him up. It was their version of the part where Hamlet is forced to go on a ship. That’s just my opinion.

The guy who played Robin Hood and the King was from Barrel of Monkeys. If you guys don’t know what Barrel of Monkeys is, you can learn it from me, ADA GREY! Barrel of Monkeys is a show and I have been to at least six of them.

John I saw in The Complete Lost Works of Samuel Beckett…. The Complete Lost Works was in the day, and this was in the night. When you get out of a play that is very long at night then I have to go home and go to bed. The daytime play when I get home I can do stuff like play with my Dad and do funny stories with my dolls and all that stuff. But both days were good. Both were great plays. I thought John was one of the funniest actors in this play.

Brennan was very very hilarious. He was one of the most hilarious people in the play as well as John. Once he came out in a bathing suit and a little kid’s floatie. It was so hilarious, I almost laughed my head off. True story. It almost came off.

Heather came out—I think she was supposed to be in the play. It was so hilarious how she just came out and I didn’t really notice her until I heard her. She yelled a lot. You don’t want to marry someone if they have killed your first husband. I don’t think that she thinks that the king killed her first husband. Why was she carrying each member across the stage? Truly, I don’t know.

Ryan played Hamlet. He was a very good actor. All the actors were good, but he could say all his lines in feeling like I can. “To be or not to be, that is the question,” was my favorite speech because it just had so much feeling in it. Like a feeling that he knew what happened (that his father died after Yorick) and he is not going to let it happen to anyone else, but it does, and then he is sad.

The scene where Hamlet dies is the scariest. They had a swordfight. A big big swordfight. The queen drunk a cup with poison in it, so she died. The other ones got stabbed. Some of them got stabbed with their swords, some of them got stabbed with other swords. Horatio says this speech to Hamlet when he is dying. And then he does another a speech when he is dead. The dying speech is in the play Hamlet. But the dead speech is not in Hamlet. I thought they were both awesome. They were both just so dramatic. Jay was a great actor too. He could do feeling very well.

The wrestling was hilarious because some of it was kind of like in Hamlet and some of it wasn’t. 40 thousand brothers part was in the play Hamlet. The wrestling wasn’t in the play—with a coach and stuff and these numbers. I hoped that Hamlet would win it, but Laertes won it because he was her brother and Hamlet was just a guy who was in love with her.

Yorick was a very cute skull who was also a fake skull. He was very cute because he looked exactly like a skull, and skulls are cute sometimes except when they are trying to eat people. I wish that I could be closer to Yorick so I could see what he looked like close up. He looked like he was a smart guy.

It was like Shakespeare and not like Shakespeare because it was hilariouser than Shakespeare’s play was. And Hamlet is supposed to be more and more and more dramatic. It was the same because it was kind of dramatic too. The language of the play was mean and soft. I think doing Shakespeare and their own words was a great idea for the play because it made it funnier and easier to understand and harder—both at the same time. There are iambic pentameters in the play.

If you don’t know what iambic pentameter is, you can learn it from me, ADA GREY! Iambic pentameter is something with 10 syllables. So I put up one finger and then “If MU-sic BE the FOOD of LOVE play ON.” And then you should put up one finger for each syllable. You should try it at home on your fingers sometime. “To be or not to be” doesn’t work, so don’t try it if you want iambic pentameter.

I think this play is for ages 4 and up. I think people who like dramatic stuff and monsters—because there is a ghost in it—would like it. And people who are hilarious and like hilarious things would like it. People should go from all around the world, even people from other countries.

Review of League of Awesome at Factory Theater

Once upon a time I went to a show and it was called The League of Awesome and it was awesome. If you don’t know what a league is, you can learn it from me, ADA GREY! A league is a whole bunch of people put together. The show was about a league of superheroes. They had names for superheroes I had never heard of that sounded cool: Cat Scratch, The Beacon, Rumble. There was one person with just a regular name—Sylvia. No superheroes in comics do that. I think they tried to be funny by giving her not a superhero name. It was very funny.

It seemed like it was going to be horrifying and very funny both at the same time because at the start it had The Sorrowmaker almost winning and Sylvia took the commissioner’s tie and made a mask and in another scene the commissioner said “where’s my tie, I can’t find my tie!” The League of Awesome are upset that they cannot fight any more villains because there are no more villains to fight after they fight The Sorrowmaker. They were fighting with each other because they couldn’t get out of the house. Then they realize he broke loose again.

The set was cool. It seemed like a comic book. It had all these comic book designs, like it had panels. They used comic book colors: red, blue, black, white, yellow, and gold. The costumes were very cool. I liked the mask that Cat Scratch wore a lot. Not kidding. Sylvia’s costume was orange and had ruffles. I think the director made the dress like that to be funny.

Cat Scratch was one of my favorite characters because I like cats a lot. I liked her power—that she could scratch. I liked how she really seemed like she wanted to go back to superheroing. Zoe was the leader of the League of Awesome. She was very smart, I thought. Rumble’s super power was that she had really far punches. Carrie Okay comes in at like the middle. Then they invite her to be in the League of Awesome because she is Sylvia’s sister and she can make people sing. Sylvia was funny. She can make things come true. Like she makes Ms. Great.

Ms. Great is created by Sylvia. She was dressed in gold. It was sparkly and shiny. The Sorrowmaker gets attached to her instead of the girlfriend. He tricks her into working with him. She is actually a good guy but he is a bad guy. She acted kind of like an alien because aliens say things like “Invader, invader, invader!” and she said “You’re welcome!”

The Sorrowmaker was the bad guy. He was kind of funny. I think the character is kind of like a villain who doesn’t know what he is doing. The villain is not really all that smart. The Beacon used to be his girlfriend but then he broke up with her without even telling her. Then they showed a scene of what didn’t happen—her not paying attention that well. I don’t think that’s a reason to break up with someone. Then it showed a picture of him starting to like his other girlfriend. The second scene I thought was the true one.

I liked the girlfriend character a lot. She seemed smart. She was kind of funny. She seems like she really knows something about everything. She has to teach the Sorrowmaker how to be smarter.

It was funny because the Sorrowmaker and Zoe a.k.a. The Beacon were about to fight but they decided to dance. I laughed.

The Commissioner was fun and kind of funny. His assistant was funny. I can’t really describe them, that’s how funny they were. The slapping was kind of funny to me. It made me have the giggles. It made me have the hiccups after.

The Narrator was pretty hilarious. You expect not one who seems drunk. You expect a narrator that is not like this narrator. He always wore this real funny coat like a robe that he wore outside.

I think 6 to 100 year olds could go. There is going to be bad language. The six year olds I think could be ready for that. If littler children want to go, just tell them there will be some bad language, and ask them if that is all right with them. It was the League of Awesomest. See you at my next review. Bye. The end.

Review of Green Tea Sushi Restaurant (2206 N. Clark, Chicago)

Once upon a few times I went to a restaurant called Green Tea. It was a restaurant for sushi. It is by the Lincoln Park Zoo. You go across the street from the zoo, and then you keep walking straight, then cross an alley, then cross a street, and then you turn right at the other street until you see a place for green tea. They had this kind of maki called a Unagi Q. It has fish, sweet sauce, fish, cucumber and rice in it. The kind of fish it is is eel. I like it because it has fish in it, and fish is one of my favorite foods. I love scallops! Scallops are one of my favorite kinds of fish, but I do like unagi better. Unagi tastes good because it is very sweet and smooth, and I think everyone would like it.

The miso soup has seaweed, tofu and onion in it. I like the seaweed best. It tastes kind of wet from soup—because it is in the soup. It is sweet and a little bit salty. What masago is is fish eggs and rice and seaweed. The fish eggs they taste kind of salty and squishy. It tastes like something I’ve never had before. The color of them is orange. They have great edamame there. The edamame is really good because it has lots of sweet taste in it—it tastes like big peas. That is what Uncle Brad calls them!

They have a spider roll that I have never had, so I can’t say how it tastes. The spider roll doesn’t even have spiders in it! It looks round and has this stuff which looks wet in it. It has crunchy parts in it. I think whoever likes crunchy things would like it. Dad, Uncle Brad, and my Mom and Lillie like it. I want to put wasabi on masago some day when I am older.

One of the waitresses I kind of know. We talk sometimes. I make pictures for her. She once gave me a calculator for Christmas. She once gave me cookies. They tasted like chocolate.

There are tables and a place where you can see what they are making. I like to sit at the bar because I like to see if my food is coming. I like to see what the other foods look like. I like it when they roll it up.

They have a Hokusai picture at the back. It has a big wave and people rowing a boat. They have fish decorations. They have a number thing where you try to get all the numbers correct. You move number to make them in the right order 1 and 20.

We read books at the sushi place like Magic Tree House. It entertains me. It feels like I am really at home.

This is the best sushi place because it has great sushi. I like it there a lot. It is a really good place. They have sweeter sushi. It has more realistic food—it tastes more like real fresh food than other sushi restaurants.

The people who would like it would be everybody and people who like sushi. If Lillie reads this review I am sure she will want to go there together.

CD Review of Jungle Gym by Justin Roberts.

Once upon a time I got a CD called Jungle Gym. It is Justin Roberts music. It was AWE-some.

“Obsessed by Trucks” is about a brother who is very obsessed with trucks. Obsessed means really like it. If you don’t know what obsessed means, you can learn it from me--ADA GREY! There is a movie of it, and it is really funny. A girl is lip-synching “Obsessed by Trucks.” That is funny because it is a song Justin Roberts sings and not this girl. It is my favorite song Justin Roberts has done. I like cars but I am not obsessed with them. I like groovy things and “Obsessed by Trucks” is really groovy.

There is this song “Sign My Cast.” It was about a guy who had a cast and he used to be the king of the jungle gym but then his arm got broken and now he can’t go on the jungle gym with his arms broken. It has very sad music. It has very slow music. It makes me feel sorry for the guy who got hurt.

There is a song called “We Go Duck” and it was about the game Duck Duck Duck Goose. It makes me feel like I want to play it. It sounds like Justin Roberts is playing Duck Duck Goose. Because it is really fast, it seems like he is running around.

Part of the song “Trick or Treat” was “tricker, tricker, tricker.” It was super good. It is groovy. It is amazing. It reminds me of trick-or-treating. It is fun because you get to dress up, like dress-up, only you get to dress up and go outside and get candy and stuff. He might like trick-or-treating still but he doesn’t do it—but maybe he does because some grown-ups go trick or treating. Like my mom—she dressed up as Batman for Halloween.

This song was about sleepovers and he was going to stay up all night with his friend and they would play a lot. And at the end he was so sleepy that he had to stay in bed all day. Me and Aunt Amanda had a sleepover and listened to it. I think the sleepover would have been funner if I got to stay up all night. I stayed up a lot of the night last night.

And you can go see him on stage. I went to go see him on stage on Sunday. It is really exciting. The music when you see him is louder. The music was really awesome. I thought it was like rock star music. It rained—it doesn’t rain on a CD! He did some songs which were not from Jungle Gym. My favorite song was “Obsessed by Trucks.” I sat down and sang with him. I actually sang pretty loud because I was so excited that they were doing “Obsessed by Trucks.” There is a guy who wears enormous sneakers. And they brang out ketchup so that’s why I think they were going to do “Meltdown,” and then it started raining so they couldn’t do it. There’s these funny puppets called Little Dave and Willy Whale. And Willy has a microphone—it is like a loopy microphone, so it goes like loop! and kind of close to your mouth. I wondered why they didn’t have a song about Little Dave. I’ve been to seventy-hundred concerts but I like to see Justin Roberts again and again. He is also my friend.

I think Justin Roberts should have a song about home schooling because I go to home school. Most of his songs are about school because most kids go to school and he went to school. Maybe that is why he hasn’t done one about home schooling. I think it would be good because then other people would know what other people are doing. So my friends would know I am having fun at home school. And I think there should be a song called “Obsessed by Pickles.” And I think it should be the grandpa who is obsessed by pickles because my grandpa is obsessed by pickles. I wish that I had Justin Roberts videos to watch on the t.v.

I think everyone would like this. I think grown-ups and kids and teenagers would like it. Do you like groovy things? It is really groovy. Most of his songs are about his childhood and his family. Review of the CD Sock-A-Delic by Dirty Sock Funtime Band

One day I got some music, and it was called Sock-A-Delic. It was Dirty Sock Funtime Band music. This kind of music is hilarious and great. I like to make up dances about the songs. I like their kind of music a lot. I like other kinds of music too, like Justin Roberts and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but this is one of my favorites.

There was one song called “The Bad Habit Boy.” I thought it would be called “Willy McWaste.” That was kind of strange because it says “Hi, I’m Willy. Willy McWaste,” and I thought it was going to be about Willy McWaste. I didn’t think it would be called “The Bad Habit Boy.” His bad habit is wasting things. The singing was funny and the music was good but not funny. It is a lesson that you learn: don’t waste everything like your money—or the most important thing: hope.

There was a song called “Donut Brain Aliens.” It was about donut-brain aliens. Almost the whole beginning line is just “donuts,” but I like it anyway. It is hilarious because donut-brain aliens look kind of like donuts. I know because I saw a picture and their heads were kind of like donuts. I think they make donuts out of brains or something—I have no idea actually. It is funny and cool—great music, great lyrics, just a really great song. There was a different album called Genius Backpack and that had “Donut Brain Aliens.” The differences were that they had different beginnings. They have different movements in them. When I say movements I mean like how it sounds. One of them was slow and one was fast. And one of them starts out, “hey” and one of them starts out, “let me hear you say.” One of them wants you to dance and the other one doesn’t. The new one does. One of them says “stop” “so we can stop the donut brain aliens” and the other says “so we can dance like donut brain aliens.” I like the second version best. I think it is more groovy. And, after all, it is the newest one.

In “Rage Against the Time Machine” a guy said, “hey, look at this. It’s a time machine.” A then someone else said, “Whoa, let’s set it for seven seconds into the past.” And seven seconds has passed already. And then it goes ahaaahaaaahaaaah. ‘Cause then like it goes over again—because seven seconds into the past is them saying it again. It was great awesome. It was a very good dancing song. In the car we laugh about it because it is so funny.

Ernesto was a super hero who actually had a funny voice. Ernesto’s is a shopping place. You can buy capes and pirate costumes. They are very cheap. I like to dance “The Banana” while I listen to it. And a tv thing is called W-H-A-P—whap! The Ernesto’s song is like a commercial because it is about a store and it is telling you to go there. But it is not real. I wish it was real because then I could go there and always buy everything—like superhero toys and superhero movies.

“Dream of the Clown” is about sleeping. Mr. Clown is just so funny. He goes to sleep in a funny way. The music is like what he says when he is sleeping.

There was a song called. “I Love It!” I love it! I love it because it is so great, and that one is not really that funny. But I still like it. It teaches you what other people love. They said “Shout out what you love” and everyone had to shout out what they love. Friends! Family! Sweets! Paintings! Toys! Movies! My Mom says stuff like: Art! Ada! Dad! Green tea smoothies! Groovy girls! Movies!

Everyone I think would like the CD. It is funny. It’s awesome. It has great lyrics. Put it on in the car, and put it on and dance. My mom smiles when it is on so I think she likes it. Me and my friend Nora had a dance party with this music. I think she liked it because she danced a lot and looked like she was having a lot of fun.

Review of The Complete Lost Works of Samuel Beckett as Found in an Envelope (Partially Burned) in a Dustbin in Paris...

Once upon a time there was a play called The Complete Lost Works of Samuel Beckett and so on. It was super funny.

“Table Talk” was really funny. The guy was holding a table because two of the legs were off. There was a glass of water—of rain. The brain on the table in a jar was like a boss, and he also bossed around his servant. I think the brain was telling the romance story to the servant so he would have something to listen to while he was holding the table. The actor was acting like the story was really happening to him because he was like “ahh eee ahhh.” I think that was water actually tipping from the glass that he decided to pour in his pants so it looked like he was peeing his pants. He was cleaning up the pee that he peed, and he lets go of the table. He was holding the table for no reason because it stays up when he lets go! Why was he getting him to hold the whole table if it was just for no reason!?

“Not Me” was about this guy. He said “Dark, only dark. It is me, only dark. It is me and the dark. Beautiful dark.” Then he said “shoo shoo shoo shoo, light.” I thought it was hilarious. He was like “come here, light. I’m h-h-h-h-happy. It’s only me in the light light light.”

“Happy Happy Bunny Visits Sad Sad Owl.” It was kind of funny because Sad Sad Owl said “somebody ate my cupcake” and then Happy Happy Bunny says, “who ate your cupcake?” “I ate my cupcake,” says Sad Sad Owl. It is funny because if he ate it, why would he be sobbing that he ate his cupcake? They were stuffed animals and not puppets—I thought that was really funny. All the things (a sign, a tree, a grass) go hopping with Happy Happy Bunny. It was awesome.

“If” was the same thing (music and a man in a rocking chair dressed up like a lady) going over and over again. I kept thinking that he would stop. He kept saying “More” and then people would throw things at him. Someone dragged his chair offstage—it was someone from the audience that did that. Then Danny pulled the rocking chair out. I would have just went up there to the place where they were doing the music and say “Stop that music at once.” I didn’t because I felt the actors would get angry. I felt silly because it kept going over and over and over and over and over and over again. I felt like I was in the show. The show was awesomer than the music.

There is a funny part in a letter where Greg said “P.S. Don’t dramatize this.” They weren’t dramatizing it—they were fun-i-tizing it.

“Foot Falls Flatly” is about a dance; he starts dancing and he gets a broken leg and has to go in a dustbin. His costume was so silly.

In “fragment,” Greg was talking and he said, “I begin as I have always begun. I switch ON! No, not good.” Then John did like a funny face or like another show or a smiley face. Then one time Greg said “I begin as I have always begun. I switch ON!” and then John does this rocking chair scene and he is like, “doo doo doo doooooo. Ahhhh!” “No no no! I switch off,” Greg says it.

I think there should be girls in this play because then it would be even funner. But when I saw it, it was pretty fun as well.

I think it should be rated for every age but 2 and 3 and 1. I don’t think the 2s could stand how long that rocking chair scene is. The brain on the table I think little kids would be scared. The peeing of the pants I think my friend Lana would think was really funny. We both really like comedy. I think people should come see the play every day. It is so fun!

Review of Barrel of Monkeys’ That’s Weird, Grandma at the Neofuturarium

Once upon a time I went to see a show, and it was called Barrel of Monkeys. All their shows were written by big kids and little kids. They all come from a school. The actors in it are not kids; they are grownups, and they act the plays out.

There are lots of parts and lots of scenes. And now I can talk about some of the ones I wanted to talk about.

“Kool-Yummm” was good, but it wasn’t that exciting. It wasn’t my favorite. The kids just kind of got hot and that’s all. And then they sang a song. The only words in the song were Kool-Yummm, Kool-Yummm, Kool-Yummm.

“The Lady Who Loved the Library” was kind of a song—but dramatic and funny. There were like these police people who like to shut down libraries and keep them closed forever. And then she saved the library. It was funny because this guy named Tai was dressed up and he had a fake moustache on—and it was really kind of funny.

“Graffiti Argument” was about this little girl and she wished there was less graffiti in her life. Graffiti is like writing on things that shouldn’t be writed on. There was like a picture of a son and a mother and the kids in the class kept writing the names of their crews on the picture. That was very much trouble for the guy who painted the school. If you don’t know what graffiti is you can learn it from me--Ada Grey!

There was one called “The Kid Who Got Hit by a Rock” and it was about a kid played by Tom who got hit by a rock. It was super funny, like how he kept getting hit by more big and bigger and bigger rocks. Then he had to go to the doctor’s because there was a big bump on his head. And the guy who played him put his hand on his head to pretend like that was his bump. And then he had to go to the doctor. The doctor said, “you should watch out more carefully.”

“Magical Place” was about this little girl played by Dixie who had these mean brothers. She went to a place and it was called a magical place. And these little elves stood right outside and they sang right outside of Magical Place. And she said I want to stay here forever. And then they sang, “Magical Place, stay here forever; Magical Place, stay here forever; Magical Place, stay here forever; Magical Place, stay here forever.” And then she decided it wasn’t a magical place—it was a yelling place. She decided to live with her brothers. They said sorry but they didn’t really mean it. It was one of my favorites. We sing “Magical Place, stay here forever” at our house all week.

“Destroyer” was very scary. Destroyer was really destroying everybody in the world by putting his fingers out. He had a skull head, so I couldn’t tell which one he was. But I think I know it was the guy who played Eddie. Emjoy was one of the girls that got destroyed. She fell down.

“Beats” was all about beats of course—like a stomp or like clapping. It was like beats, boots, gym shoes. Clap clap clap. It was fun. Sarah was really good at that part.

The show is like Laugh Out Loud. That is a place where one of my friends Lillie works. She is the owner. Both the companies are funny. They get costumes and use the props that are already out to set the scene.

The acting was awesome and funny—in a good way. My mom calls me a kookamunga, so I think I would be good to be in Barrel of Monkeys--because they are funny! I want to be in Barrel of Monkeys when I am older and write a story for it. And it would be called “Superheroes Do Not Save Villains.” It would be about a superhero who liked to save villains, but the other superheroes thought that she was crazy. And then at the end she realizes she would like to save the world and not just villains.

I think all ages would like this play. You could just cover the little kids’ eyes at “Destroyer.” Grownups would like the play because grownups like funny. I think people would like it because it is very good and the acting is good and everything about it is thrilling. I think Barrel of Monkeys want to make everybody happy who comes to see the show. I think they think the kids who write the stories are smart and cool.
